Over the past few weeks RLabs in collaboration with the Athlone News (Local Community Newspaper in Cape Town) were running a Mobile Citizens Journalist course with 8 learners from 3 schools. The idea was to teach them how they can use their mobile phones as a tool to share stories with the local community but also with the local community newspaper. The course covers a wide variety of modules that covers specific citizen journalist skills to using a mobile phone as a device and tool to capture and distribute news. It was with great excitement when one of our mobile journalists submitted an article to the local community newspaper and that it got the approval to be printed in the Athlone News Pg 10 tomorrow (12 May 2010). This is a great achievement by our young Mobile Citizen Journalist and we are looking forward to reading more of the articles that will be published in local community newspapers accross the Western Cape.
